SPOTLIGHT ON: Chesterfield fan Alicia Blackham!

The OAFC HGT Team invite a visiting away fan to tell us about more about themselves and their team ahead of every home game.

This week, we spoke to Chesterfield fan Alicia Blackham.

Welcome to BP Alicia, we hope you enjoy your visit.

Name – Alicia Blackham

Team – Chesterfield

Can you tell us something special about your hometown that we may not know?

The most recognisable thing about Chesterfield is probably the crooked spire but I don’t think the legends surrounding it are widely known outside of the area. My personal favourite is that the devil kicked it during a fight.

How far have you travelled to watch your team?

I went to Torquay away in May this year. Whilst I didn’t enjoy the result, the weekend we spent there was great and the atmosphere around the whole town was brilliant.

What got you in to football?

My mum is massively into sports and my dad was a big Chesterfield fan, they took me to my first game when I was about three. I’ve always loved it but stopped going for a while after we lost my dad, then I began working at the ground four years ago and it reignited my passion for the club, now I can’t imagine spending my weekends doing anything else.

Favourite memory as a fan?

I think I’ve got to say Chelsea away in the FA Cup. I grew up hearing stories about our 1997 cup run so it’s a special competition for Spireites. The score line may have been 5-1 but we didn’t care, the atmosphere and the joy we felt when Akwasi Asante scored at Stamford Bridge will live with me forever.

Predictions for this season for your team?

I don’t want to jinx it but I think we’re in the running for the league title. I’m confident that we will at least make the playoffs.

Player for us to look out for?

Armando Dobra. He’s an incredible signing for us and could certainly be playing in the EFL, once he has the ball it’s like its stuck to his feet. I am certain that he’s going to play a massive role in our season.

Predictions for today's game?

2-0 Chesterfield (sorry)

What would you say to any women and girls who are thinking about getting into football playing/fan?

Do it! I’m much more suited to spectating rather than playing but I love it. You will make some amazing memories and meet some great people (admittedly there will be some pain along the way but that’s only because we love our clubs). Don’t let the fear of being excluded as a woman keep you from something you’re passionate about, it’s our game too!
