SPOTLIGHT ON : SOUTHEND UNITED FAN - LAURA BLENES

Before every home game, the OAFC Her Game Too team interview a female visiting fan or employee.

Today we have had the pleasure of interviewing Southend United fan, Laura before welcoming them to Boundary Park. We hope all fans travelling are wrapped up warm before venturing to ice station zebra.

Name -Laura Blenes

Team -Southend United

Can you tell us something special about your hometown that we may not know?

We have the world's longest pleasure pier - but I think everyone knows that already.

Laura took this shot of the pier, the morning of her wedding.

How far have you travelled to watch your team?

My first away game was my furthest - Exeter and back in the same day!

What got you in to football ?

I was born into a family that liked football, originally raised a Man Utd fan (i know) I started following Southend around aged 12 so twenty years ago! Went to my first game aged 14 and was lucky enough to witness the double promotion from 2004-2006.

Favourite memory as a fan ?/ Worse memory as a fan?

Absolute favourite memory was being at Wembley watching us win the League Two Play Off Final 2015, which covers the memory of the worst moment being Barry Corr's missed penalty in the semi-final that would have taken us straight to Wembley without extra-time.

Predictions for this season for your team ?

I'm predicting a 6th finish, said it at the start of the season and I'm sticking with it.

Player for us to look out for tomorrow?

Look out for Jack Bridge, never take your eyes off him. He's an incredible player that goes from strength to strength each game.

Predictions for tomorrows game?

I think it's our game, Southend to win 2-1.

What would you say to any women and girls who are thinking about getting into football playing/fan?

Do it. If you're considering it then go for it! Whether as a fan - there's very little that's better than getting to see your team win. It's incredible. Or if you want to play, then why shouldn't you? If you've got a passion for the sport then that's what matters. Being involved in the football community is a whole other experience. We back each other when times call. Plus the rush of a last-minute goal or the tension of a penalty is exhilarating!
