SPOTLIGHT ON : CREWE ALEX SUPPORTER - AMBER EDMONDSON

Each home game, we shine a spotlight on a female fan from the visiting team, giving them a chance to share their story and love for the game.

This week, we spoke to Amber Edmondson – a proud Crewe Alex supporter - a great friend who Alison met watching England! Here's what she had to say about her club.

1. Tell us an interesting or unusual fact about your hometown or city.

Crewe town was actually name after the train station – prior to the station being built it was a small hamlet called Monks Coppenhall. Crewe comes from the welsh word for crossing (ie a massive train interchange!)

2. What got you into football – and do you remember your first match?

My Mum and still attend with her to this day. I am not sure if it was my first match but I remember playing Wrexham in the FA Cup in 92. We Won 6-1 , but what stood out is I was shouting to their keeper to let more goals in, his response was ‘Only if your Mum gives me a ciggy’

3. Why did you choose to support your club?

Home town

4. Who was your footballing hero growing up?

As a child Rob Savage (I liked his blonder hair) but for unsung hero Neil Sorvel! (I actually named a Neopet after him!)

5. What's your favourite football memory as a fan (or player)?

Partying at the club after winning the L2 play off final v Cheltenham in 2012

6. Do you travel to away games often? What’s been your favourite ground to visit?

I certainly try to (although international games do clash) My favourite ground Notts County, but looking forward to a trip to Bristol Rovers this season!

7. What’s the best chant or song your fans sing?

Currently I don’t think there is much in the way of creativity – but obviously Blue Moon (and yes we sung it before City!)

8. Have you noticed attitudes toward female fans or the women’s game changing?

From my experience with Crewe female fans tend to be treated well, internationally I would say treatment is less favourable. Almost like you don’t deserve to be there. I don’t really follow the women’s game. I watched the Euro’s and obviously wanted England to win. I think it is picking up in popularity and in the next decade it will have its own embedded fan base (let’s face it I can’t afford a football tournament every year!)

9. Matchday traditions – any lucky charms or rituals?

Always have a pack of sweets!

10. If your club were a film or song, what would it be and why?

There was a band a few years back that released a song called’ Wherever you will go’ (way up high or down low) just reminds me of the ups and downs of following Crewe!

11. How are crewe doing this season?

We started off well, some convincing wins. We then had a little bit of a stumble. Now I am hoping we can start building on last Saturday’s win against Shrewsbury!

12. Any particular player for us to watch out for?

A young lad on loan from Stoke – Tezgel, is doing well. But as always we have a couple of academy graduates in the squad who are always worth a watch.

1-2 hopefully!

14. Where do you think you will finish in the league?

Around 8th

Gutted to be missing this weekend If I am honest – but will be in Albania for England game. Good to see Oldham back in the league!
